WHAT TO ASK YOURSELF | 2008-06-06
I don't know if I will have to answer for myself on Judgment Day. I DO know I have to answer to my CONSCIENCE all the time. Maybe it is because I was raised a Bible Belter, I see no difference between what my conscience demands and what Jesus said.
The only real difference is that my conscience is much less forgiving.
I have read The Screwtape Letters many times and I spent a career in politics. I cannot imagine two better guides to understanding the nature of real evil and The Mind of the Enemy.
One question my conscience does NOT ask me and for which I will not have to answer on Judgment Days is the one people in the movement seem to spend most of their time worrying about:
"Are we going to WIN?"
Screwtape LOVES that. It seems to come straight from Tempters following his advice.
The real question is the one St, Paul posed
Did you run the race? Did you fight the fight?
That is the ONLY question my conscience FORCES me to answer. That is the ONLY question one will be faced with on Judgment Day.
