The piece below may give you the idea that the rural South is a very dangerous place. We were armed to the teeth and people pulled guns. On the other hand, you are well aware that people were very, very safe there. All the bullies and thugs who terrorize "civilized" places today kept their heads down.
Gun control is absurd, and even those who desperately desire it know it is.
The reaction to any terrorist attack is to disarm the public even more. The reaction to terrorism is to make more things Top Secret.
On thing I learned from the get-go as one with tippy-top secret clearance was that 99% of Top Secret destroyed national security. People like me who will NEVER talk specifically about what they did and when they did it do not plead Top Secret. What we did isn't IN the files. If you are at the level I was at, you clean your own files as a matter of course.
So what IS Top Secret used for? The national security industry uses Top Secret for the same reason ANY bureaucracy uses ANYTHING: to hide their own screwups.
What I SAW was that Top Secret kept people from finding out about the Ivy League traitors who run intelligence. Anything in the files that the COMMUNISTS wanted to know was theirs, because of those traitors. I told you about the openly leftist, Ivy-League Cuban woman who was head of the Cuba Desk for the Top Secret Defense Intelligence Agency. She is now in prison for many years for being from the beginning, as any sane person would have guessed, an agent for Castro.
I am willing to bet that more than one loyal memberof the inteligence bureaucracy -- they DO exist -- ruined his or her career by pointing her out. Her final capture is a truimph of defiance of Political Correctness at huge personal costs. And any evidence against her her superiors protected her with -- guess what? -- Top Secret.
So when it comes to terror, the Bush Administration bans take-on Coca-Colas, strip-searches grandmothers. In short, they do what the terrorists would like to do: make sure that everybody on a plane except the terrorists is HELPLESS.
What would happen if anyone who had a concealed weapons permit were allowed to go on a flight with a gun?
A coincealed weapons permit involves a complete background check and a course. The record of several hundred thousand concealed weapons permit holders over more than a decade is almost inhumanly perfect. If any of htem used their guns incorrectly I will guarantee you it would be headline news.
We are talking about MILLIONS of permit years. And the media has had NOTHING to report!
I have been for those EARNED permits instead of hte old POLITICAL permits from the beginning, but even I am absultely amazed at how so many people could carry so many guns and NOTHING has happened!
So what if a permit holder -- or a pilot --- were routinely allowed to have a gun on a plane?
Do you think terrorists would LIKE that?
