HEADLINE CLONES | 2006-02-10

As I explained below, the only Democrats who actually WON an election since 1944 were from the Old Confederacy.

But the last two were so much alike that I STILL say "Carter" when I mean Clinton and vice-versa.

I think in electoral terms. To those who live by the daily headlines Clinton and Carter are very different. To someone who lives in historical tersm, as I do, they are the same phenomenon.

To a person who kept up with the news from 1877 to 1901, Presidents Hayes, Garflied, Athur, Harrison and McKinley were entirely different people. To me they were all standard Republican hacks from the Midwest.

History seems to confirm my judgement.

If you live in a world of frantic e-mails you totally overlook the sober realities.

I think it's hilarious that Mitt Romney (Governor of Massachusetts)

is being talked of as a serious Republican candidate for the Presidency.

He's a resident of MASSACHUSETTS!!!

I can understand why Rudy Giuliani has support for the Presidential

nomination, but no self-respecting U.S.-born woman will vote for a man who

moved his girlfriend into his house while his wife and their

kids were under the same roof. Attorney-General or Secretary of Defense--

maybe.

I doubt McCain's chances. One thing that would help him would be a

re-emergence of the pre-1992 routine of all Presidential candidates

publicizing their medical records -- assuming he's getting good

reports from his doctors. It's tough being a cancer survivor -- I

am one -- but, since he's in public life, he can do a lot of good

by being open about his medical history.
