They were discussing dreadlocks on Stormfront, and someone mentioned Germanic warriors were supposed to have worn them.

My reply was:

"I can imagine Germanic warriors developing dreadlocks for battle."

"But what you do to yourself to look so bad you scare a Roman Legionary is not necessarily a lovely style."

The author was confusing dreadlocks with knots, a kind of loose braiding.

The Germanic warriors grew their hair long, but tied it back out of their faces. Each tribe had a distinctive style of knotting their hair, a style which became a uniform way to tell which tribe they belonged to.
